Apprentice Highways Operative (Level 2) – NY Highways

Location: Skipton, North Yorkshire
Salary: £12.71 per hour
Hours: 40 hours per week (typically 5 days between Monday–Sunday)
Contract: Fixed-term (2 years)

Start your career working with vehicles at NY Highways on our award-winning apprenticeship!

As an Highways Operative Apprentice with NY Highways, you’ll work as part of a team maintaining and improving roads, pathways, and essential infrastructure across North Yorkshire. Work that helps keep communities connected and safe.

No previous experience is needed; just a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll gain practical, on-the-job experience while working alongside skilled and supportive colleagues.

Your role will include:

Carrying out general highways maintenance and repairs
Supporting installation of kerbs, paving, and drainage systems
Assisting with road surfacing and concreting work
Helping with traffic management and seasonal maintenance activities
Working safely with tools, equipment, and machinery
Following instructions from supervisors and working as part of a team

You’ll work in a variety of environments, from towns and villages to rural areas, whilst gaining a wide range of hands-on experience.

Essential requirements:

Aged 16 or over
GCSE English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above), or willingness to achieve this
A full UK driving licence or working towards it
