Stock Assistant and Driver
Stock Assistant and Driver– Keep Our Laboratories Moving
Purpose and Scope of the Role
Tetra Tech is looking for a Stock Assistant and Driver to support our expanding UK laboratories in Bedford, with some driving duties as part of the role. You will help ensure our laboratory teams have the stock, consumables, sampling containers and prepared kits they need to deliver high-quality analytical services.
Our purpose-built Bedford laboratories support the agrochemical sector and have an international reputation for solving complex analytical challenges across food, feed and forage crops. The Bedford laboratory was also one of the first in the UK to gain UKAS accreditation for PFAS analysis following monitoring requirements at the Buncefield oil terminal.
Your Impact in this Position
You will play an important role in the smooth running of a busy laboratory environment, supporting analysts, chemists and technicians by maintaining stock areas, preparing client sampling kits, moving materials safely and keeping workspaces organised.
In the short term, you will help improve day-to-day stock flow, kit readiness and housekeeping. Over time, you will build practical knowledge of laboratory support processes, health and safety requirements and sample logistics within a growing technical business.
Core Capabilities
Stock Room Organisation
- Maintain organised stock areas, support stock rotation, move materials safely and ensure laboratory consumables are available when required.
Sampling Kit Preparation
- Prepare bottles, containers and sampling kits for clients accurately and on time, supporting traceability and correct documentation.
Laboratory Support
- Assist with practical lab hand duties, including moving boxes, warehousing tasks, maintaining clean work areas and supporting basic laboratory processes.
Health, Safety and Compliance
- Follow established procedures, complete required paperwork and work safely with manual handling, laboratory materials and chemicals.
Teamwork and Communication
- Work effectively with minimal supervision and as part of a team, following written and verbal instructions and seeking advice where needed.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
You will need good time management, attention to detail and the ability to work calmly in a busy environment with changing priorities. You should be comfortable with manual lifting, practical tasks and maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
A full, clean driving licence is required, as occasional driving may be needed to transport samples or materials using a Tetra Tech vehicle. Experience driving high-sided vehicles in a commercial setting would be advantageous, but the primary focus of the role is stock room and laboratory support.
Work Patterns and Location
This role is based at our Bedford laboratory and requires on-site working. The position involves manual handling, stock room duties, use of chemicals and occasional driving. Shift work may be required, including some unsociable hours.
