Job Summary
Pointer is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Social Value Intern to support the development and delivery of the organisation’s social value and community benefit initiatives. This short-term internship will run for 4–6 weeks over July/August (35 hours per week, flexible start date) and will report into the Head of People & Culture.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for an undergraduate student (in your third or fourth year) to gain practical experience in sustainability, social value, and community engagement within a growing UK business. The intern will support research, framework development, stakeholder engagement, and reporting activities to strengthen how Pointer manages, delivers, and measures its social value impact.
The successful candidate will work closely with internal teams and liaise with the Social Recruitment Advocacy Group (SRAG), helping to embed social value into everyday business activity and support the organisation’s wider ESG ambitions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct research into industry best practice for social value, ESG, and community engagement across relevant sectors.
- Benchmark how peer organisations measure and report social value and community benefit.
- Support the development of a structured approach for managing social value activities across the business.
- Assist in creating processes and guidance for capturing, tracking, and reporting social value contributions.
- Work with stakeholders to identify existing community and social value initiatives across Pointer.
- Support the creation of tools and templates for recording volunteering, fundraising, and community impact.
- Assist in developing metrics and KPIs to measure social value performance and outcomes.
- Liaise with the Social Responsibility Action Group (SRAG), supporting meetings, actions, and follow-ups.
- Help compile a baseline social value report and recommendations for future development.
- Contribute ideas to enhance colleague engagement in volunteering and community initiatives.
- Support the creation of communications and materials to promote social value activities internally.
- Provide general administrative and project support to the Head of People & Culture where required.

Required Experience & Qualifications
- Currently studying an undergraduate degree in your third or fourth year(e.g., Sustainability, Business, Social Sciences, HR, or related discipline).
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in sustainability, ESG, social value, or community engagement.
- Ability to organise information and present findings clearly.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
Desired Experience
- Previous academic or voluntary experience related to sustainability, research, or community work is desirable but not essential.
- Experience working on projects or group assignments would be beneficial.
