Structural Steel Platers
The employee is responsible for the assembly of manufactured steel parts into a final piece in preparation for welding. All welding will be undertaken by the welders but platers may be required to drop on from time to time. Each singular part will be manufactured in such a way that once it is delivered to site, each part will be assembled together to form a structure.
The plater is responsible for ensuring tolerances are within the structural requirements of the drawings at all times and checking his own work for any abnormalities.
Due to the heavy nature of the position, overhead cranes are essential to carrying out the work and the employee must be prepared to operate such machinery on a daily basis, once the appropriate training has been given.
Essential Functions (Duties include but are not limited to):
- Good timekeeping and flexible to work overtime when required
- Responsibility for the health and safe being of yourself and other employees around you
- Follows company policies and procedures
- Maintain a neat and tidy work area
- Maintain the security of equipment and supplies issued each day
- Ability to plan ahead and manage your own workload
- Reports any damaged equipment to the supervisor
- Knowledge and understanding of structural engineering drawings
- Understanding of basic geometry and maths
- Report any structural irregularities with the steelwork to the supervisor
- Ability to carry heavy structural items when required, but not exceeding 25kg.
- Quickly adapt and learn new skills with on the job training
- Marking out of measurements taken from structural drawings and transferring them onto the steel
- Positioning of plates so as to replicate the drawings onto the member worked on
- Marking up of weld sizes and any special requirements as noted on the drawings
- Cut through steel using various methods – Gas burning, Cutting Discs, Drilling (All training given)
- Weld mild steel to mild steel using MIG equipment (All training given)
- Use the overhead cranes to turn members of steel or to relocate them in the workshop
- Work as part of a team to assemble large frames as required (Job specific)
NOTE: Other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
Requirements:
- Requires standing/walking/bending throughout shift and ability to lift up to 25kg
- Great team interaction skills
- Ability to work all shifts and flexible to work overtime when required
- Excellent eye for detail and the ability to multi-task
Own hand tools, 8M measuring tape and Engineering Square as a minimum
Pay: Up to £16.80 per hour
