We are looking for a proactive and motivated Process & Improvement Engineer to join our team at our Worksop site. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving problems, improving manufacturing performance, and driving operational excellence within a fast-paced food production environment.
The Role
As a Process & Improvement Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering continuous improvement initiatives across our manufacturing operations. Working closely with Engineering, Production and external suppliers, you will identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, optimise equipment performance, and support the successful delivery of engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Ensuring compliance with all Food Safety, Quality and Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Delivering maintenance improvement activities to enhance equipment reliability and performance.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects across the site.
- Identifying, analysing and implementing solutions to reduce downtime, waste and production losses.
- Leading and facilitating structured Root Cause Analysis investigations.
- Reviewing and improving departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and supporting training where required.
- Supporting the implementation of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) and RCM (Reliability Centred Maintenance) best practices across manufacturing lines.
- Working with the Head of Engineering and Production Manager to develop training plans that enhance operational skills in maintenance, continuous improvement and problem-solving.
- Supporting planned and predictive maintenance activities.
- Assisting the maintenance team in achieving maximum equipment availability and operational performance.
- Contributing towards Continuous Improvement KPI achievement.
- Supporting contractor management, including Permit to Work authorisation following appropriate training.
Project Responsibilities
As part of our continuous improvement programme, you will also:
- Support production trials and new product introductions.
- Work with equipment suppliers to ensure machinery meets production requirements and identify emerging technologies.
- Assist in the delivery of engineering projects by evaluating return on investment, monitoring progress, coordinating labour requirements and ensuring parts availability.
- Lead or actively participate in Root Cause Analysis activities.
- Deliver training to colleagues on the safe, efficient and effective operation of manufacturing equipment in line with supplier recommendations.
- Support engineering colleagues in analysing equipment performance, identifying improvement opportunities and prioritising actions based on business criticality.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A completed Engineering Apprenticeship or an HNC/HND (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline.
- Good electrical awareness, with the 18th Edition qualification desirable.
- Previous experience in a similar Process Improvement, Continuous Improvement or Manufacturing Engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
- A strong understanding of manufacturing processes, maintenance systems and production technologies.
- Experience using structured problem-solving and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work independently and prioritise competing demands.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the business.
- Good IT skills and confidence using business systems and software.
Desirable Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (or equivalent).
- A recognised training qualification such as Train the Trainer.
Working Hours & Benefits
- Monday to Friday
- 37.5 hours per week (7.5 hours per day)
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends to meet business requirements
- 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays, where applicable)
