About the role
As a Local Rural Crime Officer, you will become part of your local Neighbourhood Policing Team and be geographically positioned to provide the rural community with a single point of contact for advice and reassurance with specialist knowledge on rural matters, focusing on issues that have a significant impact on rural communities (hare coursing and poaching, theft of agricultural plant and machinery, fuel, and other agricultural commodities as well as wildlife and heritage crime).
You will be required to undertake proactive operations, either independently or in support of the Force Tactical Lead, working to prevent and detect rural crime, develop partnership working, address long-term community safety issues within farming/rural areas, educate police officers and staff, equipping them with the skills to deal with issues affecting rural communities.
This role will suit a pro-active and flexible officer who enjoys working within a small team and on their own. The role will see you have ownership of a specific geographical area and a portfolio to develop aligning to one of the National Wildlife and Crime Priorities. However, you can be deployed across all areas of the county. You will be required to attend meetings, representing the force with partner agencies and the public. The successful candidate will work alongside their neighbourhood Policing Team, being line managed by their Local Sergeant and Inspector.

The role of a Rural Crime Officer deals with many highly emotive rural issues across the county.
Applicants will be required to read and complete the Rural Crime Team principles and to declare any affiliations or conflicts of interest. Further interview or assessment may be required before any appointment. Candidates will be informed if further interview or assessment is required.
The successful officer will be required to have passed their probation period and is expected to remain in post for a minimum of 2 years.
The Successful Candidates will be expected to complete the 5 National Wildlife Crime Modules to become fully accredited.
