Instructor Standards and Expectations
Working with children and representing Savage Martial Arts is a position of trust and responsibility. We expect high professional standards both on and off the mat.
We are looking for individuals who are reliable, professional and passionate about helping students grow not just in martial arts, but in confidence and character. Punctuality, preparation and a positive attitude are essential.
This is not a role for someone who simply wants to assist. We are looking for individuals who want to grow into outstanding instructors and leaders.
The Role
We are looking for a passionate, driven and reliable Martial Arts Instructor to join our growing team on a self employed contractor basis.
This role involves teaching across multiple locations in S5 and S6 during the week, working alongside the Head Coach, with additional weekend work for gradings and special events.
This is more than teaching martial arts. This is about making a real difference in young people’s lives and positively impacting the community.
About the Role
You will deliver high energy, structured classes alongside the Head Coach and wider team across Little Savages aged 3 to 7, Juniors and Teens aged 8 to 17, Ladies Only Kickboxing programmes, and school and community sessions where required.
You will support class delivery, maintain high standards and help create an outstanding student experience.
Key Responsibilities
Assist and deliver engaging, structured and high energy classes.
Teach and reinforce our award winning Life Skills curriculum alongside technical training.
Inspire confidence, discipline, respect and focus in students.
Maintain high standards of safety, organisation and class control.
Support gradings, events and workshops including weekend work when required.
Travel between S5 and S6 locations as required.
Communicate effectively with parents and students.
Contribute positively to the culture, growth and reputation of the club.
Working Schedule
This role primarily involves weekday evening work across Sheffield.
Mandatory availability includes Mondays at Hillsborough Leisure Centre S6 and Tuesdays at Wisewood Sports Centre S6.
Additional sessions may include Thursdays at Firth Park Academy S5 and Fridays at Walkley Community Centre S6.
Flexibility may be available for Thursday and Friday sessions. Monday and Tuesday availability is essential.
Occasional weekend work will be required for gradings, events and workshops.
Requirements
A martial arts or combat sports background is essential.
Experience in martial arts, boxing, kickboxing, MMA or similar is required.
Enhanced DBS check is essential and must be held or obtained before commencing work.
Must be available Monday and Tuesday evenings without exception.
Confident leading and controlling groups of children and adults.
High energy, engaging and able to command a room.
Passionate about mentoring and developing young people.
Strong communication skills.
Professional, reliable and punctual at all times.
Physically able to demonstrate techniques and maintain high activity levels during classes.
Able to travel reliably between S5 and S6 locations.
Driving licence and access to transport preferred.
First Aid qualification preferred.
Suitable references may be required.

Training and Development
Full instructor training is provided.
Please note that while we provide full training, applicants must already have a martial arts or combat sports background.
Everything else including coaching, class delivery, leadership, safeguarding and life skills instruction will be taught and developed through our structured instructor training programme.
Training includes class structure and delivery, Life Skills programme training, coaching and leadership development, safeguarding and working with children, and ongoing mentoring and instructor development.

Employment Status and Compliance Requirements
This position is offered on a self employed contractor basis.
Successful applicants will be responsible for managing their own self employment obligations and must be able to work as an independent contractor.
Before commencing work, instructors must hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate before delivering classes.
Instructors must hold and maintain appropriate Public Liability Insurance suitable for martial arts instruction throughout their engagement with Savage Martial Arts.
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and be responsible for their own tax and National Insurance obligations where applicable.
All instructors must comply with safeguarding, health and safety, and club policies and procedures, and maintain professional standards both in and out of the club while representing Savage Martial Arts.

Maintain a professional appearance and wear the appropriate Savage Martial Arts uniform.
Lead by example and act as a positive role model for students.
Deliver classes with enthusiasm, energy and professionalism.

Create a safe, positive and inclusive training environment.
Build strong relationships with students and parents.
Be open to coaching, feedback and ongoing development.
Support club events, gradings, workshops and community initiatives where required.
