Bettws Lifehouse is seeking a highly skilled and motivated person to join our well-established and skilled team at our Shrewsbury site at Kingsland Grange. We want staff who put the child at the centre of their thoughts and work. The school employs trauma informed practice and PACE in its approach with the children. This role is ideal for someone who wants to form genuine professional, supportive relationships with the pupils and can engage them in interests and activities. We are a Special Needs School with an outstanding reputation for positive, long-term outcomes for our pupils. Our child-centred approach is fundamental to our pedagogy, and our work with families enhances and improves all that we do. We have a maximum of 20 pupils in our nurture groups, and you would be working 1:1 for engagement or in a small supported teaching group.

Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant ( Lower School )
The Senior Leadership Team is looking for a person to fill this FULL-TIME post, as soon as possible.
Central to your role will be the ability to engage and manage pupils aged between 10 and 18 who may have MLD and a range of significant and complex emotional and behavioural challenges.
- You will be enthusiastic, energetic, and fun-loving – the pupils will WANT to spend time with you! A love of being active and outdoors will be considered a benefit.
- You will find ways to communicate effectively with pupils and help them overcome their communication difficulties.
- You will be interested and able to discover what makes an individual pupil tick, motivates, and engages them. You will be encouraged to find areas of interest away from academics and desk-based activities.
- You will be able to support the children with their learning in the class
- You will be aware of their sensory issues and able to facilitate a sensory diet throughout the day
- You will be a calm, well regulated safe adult to model resilience and security
- You will have experience in helping young people develop self-awareness and strategies to overcome their personal challenges. You will be clear in upholding boundaries and expectations to keep everyone safe.
- Your efforts will help pupils gain confidence and independence and develop existing and new interests and skills.
- You will work with pupils on the school site and out in the community.
- You will work in partnership with all staff, as part of a very strong, highly dedicated team committed to the best outcomes for every individual child.
The following will be a distinct advantage:
- An excellent knowledge and experience of the autistic spectrum, ADHD, childhood trauma, and mental health conditions.
- Experience and knowledge of sensory challenges
- Knowledge of how trauma and ACE's affect children's development
- Experience of how children can be affected by a range of developmental and mental health conditions, the challenges they may experience, and how they can be supported to develop strategies to overcome these.
- You will be able to plan and deliver activities that engage, inspire, and motivate.
- You will be part of the Lower School Team, assisting lead professionals in monitoring and reporting to senior leaders on progress toward EHCP targets and goals.
You must be up to the physical demands of the job and aware of the impact of working with children who have experienced trauma can have. Reliability and resilience are the key character traits we are looking for. We need someone who can demonstrate dedication to the type of work involved, a serious commitment to CPD and learning for self-improvement, and a range of skills that enhance our existing suite.
