Our Employability & Skills service operates on a region-wide basis, delivering on the Council’s priorities and supporting the ambitions of Dumfries and Galloway’s Local Outcomes Improvement Plan 2017–2027, the D&G Local Employability and Skills Partnership Delivery Plan 2022–26, No One Left Behind, and Best Start, Bright Futures.

The ASN Employment Key Worker is an important role in supporting an inclusive and person-centred employability and skills response for children with a disability. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to deliver targeted support aimed at improving outcomes and supporting transitions into further education, training, employment, or other positive destinations. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to contribute to a key regional project working in partnership with secondary schools and community settings.

The post will work directly with children with a disability, their families/carers, and a wide range of partners to provide tailored employability support. This will include developing personalised employability plans, support academic attainment and skills development, and facilitate access to learning, training, and accreditation opportunities. The post holder will also contribute to a whole-family approach through effective signposting and referrals to wider support services.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with individuals on a one-to-one basis and in group settings and will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers faced by children with a disability. They will have experience of engaging with employers and partner organisations to secure meaningful opportunities and will possess a working knowledge of employability pathways, local support services, and the welfare system.

They will be able to demonstrate effective partnership working and multi-agency collaboration, with the ability to build positive relationships that support improved outcomes. It is essential that candidates can evidence awareness of local, regional, and national employability activity and services.

The post-holder will be based across schools and community settings and will be required to work flexibly across the region in response to service needs.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence, consideration will be given if alternative transport arrangements can be demonstrated.

This post is fixed term until March 2027.

This post may be suitable for secondment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
