Full Job Description
Acoustical Control Engineers is a small, friendly family business that has successfully been designing, manufacturing, delivering and installing a wide range of acoustic solutions for over 50 years. We are looking for a reliable, determined, friendly, and skilled team player to join us and help with our increasing workload. Flexibility is essential, with some work on short notice.
Most days will be different so you will need to enjoy variety in your work. You will be expected to use your initiative frequently because every site is different, you need to be prepared to work around the country and possibly abroad very rarely.
You will quickly become a valued member of our Production Team who are responsible for the manufacture and installation of the high quality acoustic solutions that we design and provide for a wide range of acoustic problems. Most of your work will involve assembling and installing attenuation systems, often on construction sites so a CSCS card is essential, typically comprising sheet metal based components such as acoustic panels, acoustic and weather louvres, vibration isolators, attenuators, ductwork, fans, frame systems and structural steelwork. Good acoustic performance requires that all aspects of the work are completed to a consistently high standard, which is expected of everything that we do. Installation components may vary from, a small vibration isolator or panel, to a large pre-assembled attenuator weighing several tonnes. Working at height is often involved so PASMA and/ or IPAF qualifications would be helpful, along with a good head for heights.
Most installation work is carried out by a pair of Installers so you will need to share the driving, which is a significant part of the role because we work throughout the UK. Installation projects can vary in duration from one day to several months, with most being a few days or so. Where the site is reasonably local you will travel to and from site each day, usually starting early in the morning and working a long day (including travelling). Overtime is usually available. Most sites are more distant, usually involving staying away for a few nights.
When there are gaps between installation work you will assist your manufacturing Production colleagues to manufacture and assemble acoustic solutions at our Bourn factory and HQ.
Similar work, experience of which may help your competence in this role includes: ductwork, duct fitting, duct installer, sheet metal work, sheet metal fabrication, steel erector, site installer.
Your duties will include
- Assembling and installing a variety of different products, such as acoustic enclosures, screens and steelwork efficiently and to a high standard, around the UK (mainly England).
- Working in the factory between installation jobs, manufacturing a range of products.
- Working with in house machinery including guillotine, press brake, bandsaw etc.
- Preparing and collating materials, for each order, in readiness for installation.
- Problem solving, as and when required.
- Gathering information from site and passing on to colleagues where necessary to design and manufacture equipment or overcome unforeseen challenges.
- Quality Control on installations and the ability to meet ACE and Clients’ expectations.
- Identifying opportunities for improvement in the way we work and passing this information on to appropriate colleagues.
- Representing ACE in all dealings with other personnel and in the quality of work undertaken.
- Ensuring all tools and vehicles are maintained in a safe working manner.
- Loading vehicles with all materials, tools and equipment necessary for each installation.
- Maintaining a clean and tidy van and work area, in all weathers as necessary.
If you are acting in a supervisory role on site your duties will also include
- Ensuring the work is carried out safely and efficiently in accordance with the RAMS
- Representing ACE and liaising with Clients and other personnel on site
- Co-ordinating with other parties on site to ensure our work can be carried out efficiently
- Developing preliminary solutions to problems that occur on site for discussion and agreement with other colleagues as appropriate before implementation
- Recording progress on site and liaising with colleagues to ensure our work is carried out efficiently
- Liaising with ACE managers regarding any difficulties that may arise as part of your work
- Ensuring all administrative tasks are completed promptly and efficiently
Skills needed (training will be provided where appropriate)

- Work as a team member, preparing and installing jobs
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Full UK driving license and competence in driving medium to large vans
