An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 6 OT into the inpatient mental health wards in West Suffolk. It is an exciting time for the team as it is now led by an AHP team lead and coming together as one team across adult and older adult wards. The AHP team has Physio, OT, OT assistants (OTA’s), activity workers, a complementary therapist, and a fitness instructor. In this role, you would be working closely with a band 5 OT and OTA’s to provide OT assessment and interventions on the adult acute wards.
There is access to a gym, ADL kitchen, and an established therapeutic garden on site. The garden is highly valued by service users, staff and visitors at wedgwood house, so the successful applicant would be expected to facilitate therapeutic garden groups and oversee the garden’s ongoing success. An opportunity for training around this area could be consider if required.
In this role there is opportunity to offer a holistic approach, issuing equipment, discharge planning, facilitating groups, liaising with family and carers and facilitating home assessments. The ward MDT consists of nurses, psychology, psychiatrists, and peer support workers. This is a dedicated OT role with the opportunity to be creative when planning interventions. As Occupational Therapist you will be responsible for:
Assessment of Activities of Daily Living
Report writing
Occupational Formulation
Planning and carrying out interventions
Contributing to care planning and risk assessment
Oversee the process and implementation of service user meal preparation
Group facilitation
Promoting recovery approach within the wider MDT
Support discharge planning, working with community teams
Provide outreach visits where indicated as part of the discharge process
Helping to oversee the ward timetable and also taking a lead in creating individual weekly planners based on level of functioning and goals.
Attending reviews and professionals meetings
Establishing and maintaining links with community services
Supervision of band 5 OT
