We are looking for a confident and motivated Transport Manager who can lead from the front and maintain a positive approach within a fast-paced yet controlled transport environment. Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day transport operation of a mixed fleet of articulated HGVs and light commercial vehicles
- Plan and coordinate nationwide delivery schedules and collection routes to maximise fleet utilisation across:
- General Haulage
- Pallet Track network
- ADR Haz Chem operations
- Act as the nominated Transport Manager on the Operator Licence
- Ensure full compliance with:
- Operator Licence requirements
- DVSA regulations
- Tachograph legislation
- Working Time Directive rules
- Driver licence checks, CPC hours, and medical requirements
- Oversee vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, defect reporting, and manage associated invoices from fault to resolution
Monitor and report on:
- Driver performance and hours
- Nights out
- Fuel card usage
- Fleet compliance standards
- Lead ongoing driver coaching, assessments, training, and new driver onboarding
- Manage agency driver operations, including hours, compliance, invoicing, and damage reporting
- Lead, support, and develop drivers, planners, and loading teams through effective management and coaching
- Work closely with warehouse teams and customers to ensure smooth, end-to-end operations
Control and improve transport costs and efficiencies, including:
- Fuel usage
- PODs and handheld device usage
- PCNs, toll crossings, and parking fines
- Investigate incidents, delays, and compliance issues, implementing corrective actions with senior management
- Promote and maintain a strong health & safety culture across all transport activities
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational performance and customer service
- Deliver a customer-focused operation, ensuring service levels and reporting requirements are consistently met
About You
- Proven experience in General Haulage and Pallet Networks
- Holder of a valid Operator Licence (and willing to act as nominated Transport Manager)
- Strong understanding of transport compliance and UK regulations
- Ability to lead from the front and motivate teams in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly under seasonal demand pressures
- Highly organised with strong planning and coordination abilities
- Confident communicator with a proactive, positive attitude
- Committed to maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and service delivery
