Postdoctoral Research Associate – Geospatial and Systems Modelling
This role will contribute to the delivery of the CIRCARB programme, a national-scale research initiative focused on defossilising industrial materials by substituting fossil-derived carbon with biogenic and captured CO₂ feedstocks. CIRCARB integrates material innovation with system-level modelling, lifecycle assessment, and policy alignment to enable a circular carbon economy.
The postdoctoral researcher will primarily conduct research on the workstream on circular carbon feedstocks & end-of-life recovery, developing spatially explicit models of feedstock availability, logistics optimisation, and circular resource flows across the UK.
In parallel, the role will contribute to economic development work within the Supergen Bioenergy Impact Hub, supporting the translation of research into regional economic opportunities, commercial pathways, and policy-relevant insights. This includes linking bioenergy innovation to regional growth, job creation, and investment pipelines.
The postholder will be based within the Systems Research Group at the Energy & Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) at Aston University and will work across interdisciplinary teams spanning geospatial modelling and sustainability assessment.
