As Avalara expands its E-Invoicing and Live Reporting (ELR) capabilities, we need experienced functional consultants who can translate complex regulatory requirements into scalable implementation designs that accelerate customer adoption and ensure compliance.
The Senior Functional Consultant serves as the critical bridge between regulatory mandates, business processes, and technical implementation teams. Working across Product, Engineering, Professional Services, ERP Connector teams, and strategic partners, this role transforms evolving global requirements into repeatable implementation patterns that improve delivery consistency, reduce deployment friction, and help customers achieve faster time-to-value.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be:
- Partner with regulatory SMEs to understand new and evolving global e-invoicing and CTC requirements.

Translate complex regulatory mandates into structured business requirements, functional designs, implementation guidance, and reusable solution patterns.

Analyze customer Procure-to-Pay (P2P) and Order-to-Cash (O2C) business processes and map them to Avalara’s ELR platform capabilities.

Guide implementation teams, integration teams, and partners through mandate-specific solution design and implementation decisions.

Support customer onboarding, solution design workshops, and implementation activities to improve deployment quality and customer outcomes.

Identify implementation risks, dependencies, and gaps while driving cross-functional resolution.

Serve as the primary functional liaison between regulatory experts, Product Management, Engineering, ERP Connector teams, Professional Services, and external partners.

Develop implementation documentation, training materials, and partner enablement resources that improve consistency and scalability.

Monitor global regulatory changes and assess their impact on existing solution designs and implementation approaches.

Continuously improve methodologies, frameworks, reusable assets, and implementation standards across the ELR ecosystem.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline and 7+ years of experience in ERP consulting, solution architecture, business analysis, product ownership, or enterprise software implementation.

Strong understanding of Procure-to-Pay (P2P) and Order-to-Cash (O2C) business processes.

Experience with invoice lifecycle management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement, and financial operations.
-
Ability to translate business requirements into technical designs and implementation guidance.

Experience with ERP platforms including SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, NetSuite, Workday, Infor, or similar enterprise systems.

Strong stakeholder management, communication, and facilitation skills.

Proven ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

Experience supporting global e-invoicing, indirect tax compliance, CTC frameworks, PEPPOL, or digital reporting mandates.

Product ownership or product management experience.

Experience designing enterprise integrations, APIs, or solution architectures.

Familiarity with SaaS implementation methodologies and partner ecosystems.

Experience working with system integrators, ISVs, or strategic technology partners.
