Job Title: Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos SEM) – Full Training Provided
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Middlesbrough
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 4pm
Salary: £25k - £27k

We are seeking a meticulous and analytical Laboratory Analyst to join our Environmental laboratory team. This role focuses on the preparation, analysis, and reporting of asbestos samples using SEM, with full training provided, making it an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to develop a career in laboratory-based analysis.
This role focuses on the preparation, analysis, and reporting of asbestos samples using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), ensuring accurate and timely results in line with strict quality and safety standards.
You will play a key role in maintaining laboratory productivity, supporting compliance, and contributing to high-quality service delivery within a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare and analyse samples using SEM, maintaining productivity targets of at least 2 trays per instrument per day

Accurately interpret job instructions and identify asbestos fibers, ensuring clear and precise documentation

Process samples and produce reports in a timely manner in line with company procedures

Adhere strictly to quality, safety, and environmental standards at all times

Support quality control processes, including participation in audits and continuous improvement activities
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this role is someone who has experience in a laboratory environment, with a keen eye for detail and an interest in analytical science, ideally within asbestos or materials analysis. Prior experience with SEM would be advantageous, however this is not essential as full training will be provided.
You will also have the following:

A qualification in Chemistry, Physics, or a related scientific discipline

Experience working safely within a laboratory setting

Strong communication skills and basic IT proficiency

A diligent, inquisitive approach with an understanding of quality control processes

A positive, can-do attitude with a willingness to learn and develop
