Job Overview
Responsible for preparing metal and fibreglass components for paint and finishing processes, including surface repairs, sanding, cleaning and final inspection. Experience with composite materials, fabricated metal products, and industrial finishing environments is advantageous. A consistent approach to quality and attention to detail are important in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare metal and fibreglass surfaces for painting.
- Inspect components for dents, scratches, pinholes, cracks and surface defects.
- Repair minor fibreglass defects using correct fillers.
- Apply body filler to achieve smooth paint-ready surfaces.
- Remove contaminants such as grease, oils, dust and old coatings.
- Conduct final quality inspections prior to paint application.
- Work closely with painters, and production staff to maintain workflow and quality standards.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and respiratory protection.
- Assist with material handling and movement of parts throughout the production process.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in paint preparation, automotive refinishing, industrial coatings, or composite fabrication preferred. (1year)
- Experience working with metal, aluminium, steel, and fibreglass materials.
- Knowledge of sanding techniques, fillers, and surface preparation methods.
- Ability to use grinders, DA sanders, and other preparation tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
- Ability to read and follow work instructions and quality standards.
- Knowledge of masking is an advantage.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various positions throughout the shift.
- Ability to work at a height and on ladders.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
- Ability to work in environments with dust, noise, and paint-related materials while wearing required PPE.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing, fabrication, automotive or industrial finishing facility.
- Regular exposure to metal dust, fibreglass dust, fillers, primers, paints, and solvents.
- Required use of safety glasses, gloves, respirators, hearing protection, and other PPE.

Salary:
£28,000 - £32,000 dependent on experience
