Job description
The Websites Team is responsible for all aspects of the Nationwide website estate – including, Nationwide | A good way to bank ; Home | Nationwide For Intermediaries ; The Mortgage Works for landlords | Buy to let mortgages and the product pages in the Nationwide app and internet bank.
Our purpose is to ensure customers receive a simply brilliant experience every time they interact with us online.
As a Website Product Owner, you’ll play a critical role in shaping and delivering that experience. You’ll own a defined area of the website estate, setting direction, prioritising work, and ensuring we deliver measurable outcomes for both customers and the business. This Product Owner role will be responsible for Business Banking.
This is a 9-month Fixed Term Contract opportunity.
At Nationwide, we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK-wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job, you'll be assigned to our nearest regional hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our office sites. This is anticipated to be monthly in Swindon. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
What you’ll be doing
As the Website Product Owner, you’ll own the backlog and roadmap for your area of the website, app and internet bank, setting a clear direction that is aligned to business priorities and understood across your team. You’ll turn strategy into well-shaped epics and user stories, making sure work is focused, visible and delivering real value.
You’ll drive performance across our online journeys, using data and insight to spot opportunities, improve customer experiences and prioritise activity that strengthens engagement and conversion.
Working across a cross-functional team, you’ll bring together Content, Design, Insight, SEO and Operations to deliver joined-up, high-quality experiences. From early ideas through to live delivery, you’ll ensure everything lands in a consistent and customer-focused way.
As the accountable owner for your product area, you’ll build strong relationships across Marketing, Product and COO teams, keeping priorities aligned and decisions clear. You’ll also make sure everything we deliver meets the right standards for quality, compliance and governance, maintaining alignment with regulatory and accessibility requirements so our digital estate remains accurate, compliant and customer focused.
About you
As a minimum, you’ll have:
Experience working as a Product Owner, or in a similar role, within a digital or website environment
A strong understanding of website journeys, customer behaviour and performance metrics
Proven experience owning and managing a product backlog, including writing clear epics and user stories, prioritising effectively, and ensuring activity is aligned to team and business goals
Experience translating business requirements into clear, delivery ready work
Strong decision making and prioritisation skills, with a clear focus on delivering customer and business outcomes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to senior stakeholders and wider teams
Strong influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and build alignment across teams
Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:
Feel what customers feel - We step into our customers’ shoes, using their feedback and insights to empathise with them and to understand their needs, so that every decision we make starts and finishes with our customers in mind
Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand
Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development
Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes
You can strengthen your application by showing how our customer first behaviours resonate with you, and where you may have already demonstrated these.
