Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Childcare Lawyer Solicitor to join the Legal Services team on an interim basis to provide cover during an ongoing recruitment process.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified solicitor with extensive experience in children's law and care proceedings to work within a supportive local authority legal team.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert legal advice and representation in care proceedings and other family law matters.
Manage legal queries from the Children and Young People Services Directorate.
Conduct legal research and provide advice on complex legal issues affecting operational services.
Prepare legal documentation and represent the Council where required.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure compliance with Law Society Professional Standards and Lexcel accreditation requirements.
Deliver practical, timely, and high-quality legal advice to internal stakeholders.

Essential Requirements:

Qualified Solicitor holding a current practising certificate (essential).
Significant experience in children's law, including:
Care proceedings
Family law
Strong legal research and analytical skills.
Ability to provide clear, practical legal advice on complex matters.
Experience working within a local authority or public sector legal environment is desirable.

Working Arrangements:

37 hours per week
Hybrid working
Mondays: Office-based at County Hall, Northallerton
Tuesday–Friday: Remote working
Candidates based in North Yorkshire or neighbouring counties are preferred due to the nature of the assignment.

Pay: £55.00 per hour
