Part-Time Evening Ultrasound Sonographer
Location: Ultrasound Centre, 43 George Street, Croydon, CR0 1LV
Approximately two minutes’ walk from East Croydon Station
Pay: £45–£65 per hour, depending on experience, verified competencies and scope of practice

About the Role
Ultrasound Centre Croydon is seeking a qualified, confident and patient-focused Ultrasound Sonographer to join our growing private clinic.
The position will initially involve approximately three evening sessions per week, normally from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Sessions and working days will be agreed in advance.
As patient demand grows, there may be an opportunity to increase the position to four or five sessions per week and potentially offer longer sessions or additional daytime and weekend hours.
This position is particularly suitable for a sonographer who is already working within the NHS, another private healthcare provider or an ultrasound clinic and is looking for regular additional evening work.
Applications are also welcome from other suitably qualified candidates who can demonstrate current clinical competence and reliable availability for the required evening sessions.
Location and Travel
The clinic is conveniently located in central Croydon, approximately two minutes’ walk from East Croydon Station.
Because the role requires reliable attendance for a fixed 5:00 pm start, applicants living in Croydon, within approximately five miles of the clinic or within easy travelling distance are preferred.
Applicants living further away are welcome to apply provided they have a reliable travel arrangement and can attend all agreed sessions punctually.

- Other pregnancy scans within the candidate’s verified competence
General Ultrasound
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Pelvic ultrasound
- Renal and urinary tract ultrasound
- Thyroid ultrasound
- Testicular ultrasound
- Soft tissue ultrasound
- Other general examinations within the candidate’s verified competence
MSK Ultrasound
- Musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations
- Tendon, ligament, muscle, joint and soft-tissue assessments
- Other MSK examinations within the candidate’s training and competence
Fertility Monitoring
- Follicle tracking
- Endometrial lining assessment
- IVF cycle monitoring
- Other fertility-related examinations within the candidate’s competence
Phlebotomy
Phlebotomy experience is highly desirable and may include:
- Venepuncture and blood-sample collection
- Confirming patient identity
- Correctly labelling samples
- Preparing samples for laboratory collection
- Maintaining infection prevention and clinical safety standards
- Reassuring anxious patients
Candidates without phlebotomy experience may still apply if they have strong ultrasound experience.

- Follow clinic policies, professional guidance and CQC requirements
- Comply with infection prevention, safeguarding and health and safety procedures
- Assist with phlebotomy where trained, assessed and authorised
- Maintain punctual and reliable attendance for agreed evening sessions
- Contribute positively to the continued development of the clinic
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A recognised postgraduate ultrasound qualification or equivalent
- Appropriate professional registration where applicable
- Current practical experience in ultrasound
- Evidence of competency for each type of examination they intend to perform
- The ability to perform and report examinations independently
- Strong reporting and clinical documentation skills
- Excellent communication and patient-care skills
- A professional, calm and compassionate manner
- Good attention to clinical detail and accuracy
- An understanding of infection prevention and patient safety
- Professional indemnity cover or eligibility for the clinic’s appropriate cover
- The right to work in the United Kingdom
- Reliable availability for evening sessions from 5:00 pm
Desirable Requirements
- Competence in both obstetric and general ultrasound
- MSK ultrasound experience
- Fertility or IVF monitoring experience
- Phlebotomy or venepuncture training and experience
- Current NHS or private ultrasound experience
- Experience working independently in a private clinic
- Membership of an appropriate professional body
- Experience with electronic reporting and patient-record systems
- Ability to offer occasional additional evening, daytime or weekend sessions
Experience Levels
We are willing to consider applicants at different experience levels, provided they are qualified and can demonstrate independent competence within their stated scope of practice.
Less-experienced applicants may initially be offered a narrower scope of work, a structured induction and appropriate professional support. They will not be expected to undertake examinations independently until their qualifications, experience and competence have been verified.
Each agreed evening session will normally be scheduled for a minimum of two hours.
Working Pattern
The initial anticipated working pattern is:
- Three evening sessions per week
- Approximately 5:00 pm–7:00 pm
- Days agreed in advance
- Potential to increase to four or five weekly sessions as demand grows
- Potential for additional daytime or weekend sessions
- Possible opportunity for the position to develop further as the clinic expands
