Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a practice nurse to join our practice team. You will ideally need to have experience of working in a GP practice setting, be registered with the NMC and to be familiar with EMIS, but applicants with experience in other settings will be considered.
Brinsley Avenue Medical Practice is located in Trentham and provides care to 5900 patients. We are a friendly and supportive 3 partner practice. We are a 2-surgery practice so the ability to travel between both practices is essential (Approx 1.5 miles). The professional team includes GPs and a trainee Healthcare Assistant. We are a training practice and provide training to a variety of trainees. The practice has recently received “Good” in all areas on our CQC inspection.
Responsibilities
- Adult immunisation.
- Scheduled and unscheduled childhood immunisations.
- Cervical smears and swabs.
- Chronic Disease Management – Asthma, COPD, Diabetes.
- Health Promotion.
- Measuring blood pressure.
- Basic wound care and dressings
- Contraception.
- Venepuncture
- Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment including refrigeration and emergency equipment.
- To provide care in line with NICE guidelines.
- To contribute towards clinical targets included in QOF and QIF.
- Communicate effectively with other team members.
- Communicate effectively with patients and carers.
- Infection control lead
- Frailty and dementia reviews
- To carry out home visits for nursing assessments/reviews when required
Education
- Participate in continued education and maintain an up to date level of professional knowledge and skills.
- Identify personal development and training needs with the manager.
- Support the junior staff and assess their competency against set standards.
- Record information and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurate and timely fashion using EMIS.
- Maintain confidentially of information relating to patients, carers, relatives, staff and the practice.
- Take the required precautions when providing information including following GDPR.
- Create and run audits relating to own area of work eg cervical screening, infection control
Health and Safety
The post-holder will help to promote and maintain their own and others health, safety and security.
- Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintain work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.
- Reporting potential risks that are identified.
- Undertake infection control training.
Qualifications
Qualified registered nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council) alongside evidence of continued professional development
Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
Salary: Negotiable, dependant on experience.

Experience
Primary Care: 2 years (preferred)
- Excellent communication skills.

- Experience of dealing with the public/patients.

Pay: £37,000.00-£39,000.00 per year
