About Us
We are a Cornwall-based plant hire company supplying generators, honey wagons, welfare units, and specialist equipment to the TV, film, and events industry. Due to increasing demand, we are looking for a reliable, flexible, and experienced individual to join our team on a self-employed basis.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys a varied workload, combining yard operations, driving, equipment maintenance, and mechanical repairs.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the yard, transporting equipment to and from film and TV locations, and ensuring all equipment is maintained to a high standard and ready for deployment.
As productions often operate outside standard working hours, flexibility is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing and maintaining the hire yard.
- Delivering and collecting generators, honey wagons, and other hire equipment.
- Driving trucks and towing trailers safely and professionally.
- Loading, unloading, securing, and preparing equipment for transport.
- Carrying out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs.
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults on generators and plant equipment.
- Performing basic electrical fault finding and repairs on generators and associated equipment.
- Ensuring all equipment is clean, safe, and production-ready.
- Completing pre-hire and post-hire inspections.
- Maintaining service records and reporting any major faults.
- Supporting film and TV productions with equipment setup when required.
Essential Requirements
- Must be based in Cornwall.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience driving trucks and towing trailers.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to service and repair equipment independently.
- Experience working on generators, plant machinery, honey wagons, or similar equipment.
- Basic electrical knowledge and fault-finding ability.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, and early starts when required by productions.
- Reliable, professional, and able to work under pressure.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- HGV licence.
- Plant operator tickets or relevant certifications.
- Electrical qualifications.
- Experience working within the TV, film, events, construction, or plant hire industries.
- Generator servicing and maintenance experience.
- Experience working on location-based projects.
