About The Organisation

NHS Lanarkshire is comprised of Acute Services (which currently provide hospital based services over 3 main sites), Corporate & Property & Support Services, North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships which provide integrated primary healthcare and social care services to local communities and surrounding areas.

The Role

To provide effective operational management and professional leadership to a discrete team of Health Improvement staff within a CHP Unit. With responsibility for an extensive portfolio of health improvement and health inequalities work. Provide leadership for health improvement work streams, reflecting policy and practice, which specifically address local health needs.

To influence and provide Health Improvement leadership within the Units and key partner agencies to contribute to the development and implementation plans for a portfolio of health improvement work streams. The post holder will support the development of health improvement within NHS Lanarkshire with different entities, to raise the profile of health improvement and to deliver effective and efficient programmes of work across population groups and communities in the Unit.

The post holder will provide specialist health improvement/public health expertise and manage Unit resources (staff/budget) to effect change. They will ensure integration between plans and programmes across the Unit, the CHP and other settings

Please note this is a fixed term post for 23 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

In this key role, you will:

Interpret current policy and professional practice relevant to the health improvement and health inequalities portfolio and where appropriate initiate developments that promote health and prevent ill health ensuring a focus on inequalities, targeting resources to local circumstances
With local agencies and Unit/CHP staff, plan, coordinate and lead the development and implementation of evidence based health improvement work streams based on good practice. Responsible for ensuring these work streams are inequalities sensitive, as well as compliant with equalities legislation, reflect need and build on existing evidence to maximise the impact on health gain and reduced health inequalities.
Analyse and interpret Unit health and inequalities data and make recommendations for developments and changes to health improvement and inequalities work.
Provide advice and leadership to staff and lead and support partnership working with statutory, voluntary organisations, and the community to influence and ensure commitment to deliver programmes and services which have a positive health improving effect

What You'll Bring:

Knowledge of public health/Health Improvement field acquired through relevant degree, supplemented by specialist public health improvement knowledge, acquired through learning, extended courses and experience to Post Graduate /Masters level (SCQF level 11)
Highly developed knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice of health improvement/public health
Extensive experience and a proven track record of working in Health Improvement/Public Health or other health inequalities related field
Demonstrated experience of strategic planning and partnership working across organisational boundaries to deliver health improvement outcomes
A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
