DEPARTMENT: BBC Children’s & Education
LOCATION: Salford (MediaCityUK) – Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £25,000 - £34,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join the award-winning BBC Bitesize team to support and inspire classroom learning with world-class, curriculum-aligned resources. As a Researcher with Bitesize for Teachers (formally BBC Teach), you’ll play a key role in delivering the highest quality classroom video material for primary and secondary schools in the UK, as well as contributing innovations and improvements to our digital platform for teachers.

The inspirational resources you create alongside a Producer and Assistant Producer will bring children together in classrooms across the UK, uphold the highest standards of accuracy and impartiality, support “tough to teach” topics and help teachers prepare learners for a changing world.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

Alongside a Producer and Assistant Producer, you will work with independent production companies to commission high quality classroom video material for primary and secondary schools.
You will contribute throughout the commissioning lifecycle (from researching curriculum objectives and writing up commissioning briefs, through to publishing final resources online).
You will be comfortable working across multiple projects simultaneously, all the while contributing to the creative and editorial direction.
You will work with internal and external partners and stakeholders (including subject specialist teachers) to maximise the impact of our classroom resources and uphold the highest standards of accuracy and impartiality.
You will contribute improvements to our website for teachers, ensuring digital resources are positioned attractively and accessibly for primary and secondary school teachers in the UK.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

You’ll have the ability to establish effective short- and long-term relationships with a wide range of people, including BBC and external colleagues, partners and teacher groups.
You’ll have a strong digital skillset, with experience using web content management systems and digital content assets.
You’ll have a proven ability to contribute to multiple projects at once (planning, organising, prioritising and reacting positively to change).
You’ll have an awareness of BBC editorial guidelines and other compliance processes, and how these relate to formal education content for children and young people.
You’ll have a strong interest in the needs of primary and secondary school teachers in the UK and the ability to research curriculum requirements accurately.

DESIRABLE:

An interest in working with statistics and audience data, using it to inform decisions around content.
Practical experience of television or online video production, or experience in an equivalent medium.
An interest in new and emerging technologies to deliver content to audiences in the most effective ways.
Awareness of financial responsibility and budgets.
