Walton Street Cycles is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our busy team.
The role offered is a mechanic position focusing on all aspects of the bicycle industry but with more focus on bicycle repairs. The location is mixed between our main workshop at Walton Street Cycles, our HQ premises in Kidlington and covering mobile repair events at various locations across Oxford.
We are looking for someone who wants to develop their career within the cycle industry and gain valuable experience in a forward-thinking cycle shop and hire business. The role will entail working within our busy workshop, Workshop in Kidlington and assisting the mobile bike mechanics at various off-site events – where we bring our professional workshop to external locations.
Overall, we want someone friendly and hardworking who has a genuine passion for cycling. We are a sociable bunch and have fun while we work.
We specialise in all types of bikes and cycling, and we get to see all of the latest product on the market as well as very early technology. We take pride in being able to fix anything.
Our current new bike brands include; Brompton, Scott, Raleigh, Ridgeback, Genesis, Pashley, Kona, Gazelle, Dawes, Claud Butler, Roland & PUKY but take pride in being able to fix anything.
Duties
- Proven mechanical knowledge, preferably with experience in bicycle repair or similar fields
- Assessing and repairing customers bikes
- Building new bikes
- Maintaining hire bike fleet
- Reconditing used bikes
- Liaising with customers about their requirements (both repairs and sales)
- Working with and eventually running mobile ‘Bike Dr’ events
- Assisting customers find the best solution for their cycling requirements
- Assisting cycle tours, holidays and cycle rentals

We are Oxfordshire’s oldest and largest bicycle shop; we are proud of our heritage and always strive to provide our customers with a great experience. We run a very busy shop, rental fleet, tours and workshop taking pride in our repairs, we believe in honest hard work and providing ongoing training and development skills for all members of staff – we want our team to be the best and invest in achieving this.
We are an accredited Shimano Service Centre a premium Shimano Electric bike centre. We have the best equipped and largest workshop in Oxford.
We currently have 18 full time members of staff and 2 part time members.

External supplier training and accreditation (Shimano Service Centre, Brompton, etc).

Although we do all work very hard, we also like to play hard to, there is a vibrant social life and great comradery within the workplace which we are keen to retain.
Used bikes can be sold through the shop but must be completed in personal time and offered with a 3-month guarantee.

- Position 1 Mon, Weds, Thurs, Fri 08:30 – 17:30, Sat 09:00 – 17:00
Position 2 Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs 08:30 – 17:30, Sun 10:00 – 16:00
Reports to
- Successful candidate will report to the workshop manager.
Holiday
- Holiday entitlement is 28 days calculated pro-rata on full pay per annum. We are open on bank holidays and anytime off will need to be booked in advance.
Pay: £26,000.00-£29,000.00 per year
