8 am - 2 pm - flexibility required.
The Handyperson ensures the care home remains safe, well‑maintained, and comfortable for residents living with dementia. The role combines practical repair skills with an understanding of how the physical environment affects residents’ wellbeing, independence, and sense of security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repairs - Complete routine fixes across plumbing, joinery, decorating, and basic electrics.
- Safety Checks - Carry out and record regular checks on fire systems, lighting, water temperatures, and equipment.
- Outdoor Upkeep - Look after gardens, paths, and seating areas to ensure safe, calming outdoor spaces.
- Contractor Support - Arrange and oversee external trades, ensuring minimal disruption to residents.
- Risk Reporting - Identify hazards promptly and support the team during inspections or emergencies.
- Stock Control - Manage tools, materials, and supplies safely and efficiently.
- Resident‑Aware Working - Carry out tasks calmly and respectfully around residents who may experience confusion or anxiety.
Skills & Experience:
- Practical Maintenance Skills across plumbing, joinery, painting, basic electrics, and general repairs.
- Understanding of Dementia and how the environment affects behaviour, comfort, and safety.
- Health & Safety Knowledge including COSHH, manual handling, and safe systems of work.
- Problem‑Solving Ability with a proactive approach to identifying and fixing issues.
- Communication Skills to work effectively with residents, families, colleagues, and contractors.
- Organisational Skills to manage tasks, prioritise urgent repairs, and maintain accurate records.
