Our work spans basement excavation, reinforced concrete structures, drainage, ICF construction, and general groundworks for residential and commercial clients. The Role
We are looking for an Assistant QS with a few years of experience to join our team in our Hemel Hempstead office. This is a hands-on pricing role — you will be responsible for taking enquiries from drawings through to a fully priced, client-ready Bill of Quantities.
You will work closely with the manager & director and site teams to ensure tenders are competitive, well-structured, and returned on time. This role is a genuine opportunity to grow within a business that is scaling, with real responsibility from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting in receiving and reviewing tender enquiries and contract documents
- Carrying out quantity takeoffs from structural, civil, and architectural drawings
- Producing detailed Bills of Quantities in line with NRM2 measurement principles
- Building up all-in rates for labour, plant, and materials
- Pricing groundworks, drainage, excavation, RC works, and substructure packages
- Raising RFIs and identifying scope gaps ahead of tender submission
- Working with the director to review and finalise tender submissions
- Maintaining and updating a live rate library based on project feedback and supplier pricing
- Assisting in keeping track of live projects & any valuations
What We're Looking For
- 1-3 years of experience in a QS or estimating role, ideally within a groundworks, civils, or RC contractor environment
- Ability to read and interpret structural and civil engineering drawings confidently
- Strong Excel skills — we work from Excel-based BoQs, not purely click-through estimating software
- Sound understanding of NRM2 measurement methodology
- Organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple live tenders at once
- Comfortable working in a small, fast-paced team where you will need to use your initiative
- Must be able to commute to and work from our Hemel Hempstead office full time
Desirable but Not Essential
- Experience pricing basement, retaining wall, or RC frame packages
