Can you walk into a room of young people and turn a quiet space into a creative one?

About Us:

We Are Noise is a youth-led creative arts organisation delivering music, DJing, podcasting and digital media sessions for young people across Lancashire.

We work with young people through youth zones, community organisations, local authority services and youth provision partners, creating spaces where young people can express themselves through music and creativity.

Our sessions are designed to support young people who may struggle with confidence, motivation, emotional regulation or engagement, helping them feel seen, heard and valued while developing creative skills.

Through music and creative arts we help young people build confidence, resilience, social connection and a positive sense of identity.

The Role:

We Are Noise are looking for a dynamic and engaging freelance Music Youth Worker to deliver music and creative arts sessions with young people in youth centres, community settings and partner venues, primarily with the junior age group (8-12 year olds).

This role requires someone who can walk into a room, build rapport quickly and energise a group of young people through music based activities. The successful candidate will be able to create a welcoming atmosphere, encourage participation and inspire young people.

Key Responsibilities:

Work directly with young people, primarily aged 8–12, to deliver safe, engaging, and structured music activities within a YouthZone environment, with opportunities to support sessions for young people aged 13–18 where required.
Deliver a high-quality music programme that is safe, enjoyable, challenging, and development-focused, including activities such as instrument tuition, music production, DJing, lyric writing, and podcasting.
Encourage active participation from young people, ensuring their ideas and feedback contribute to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of sessions, projects, and activities.
Build positive, supportive relationships with young people from diverse backgrounds, providing interventions that promote personal development, confidence, self-esteem, positive peer relationships, engagement in new experiences, skill development, and wider support networks.
Demonstrate initiative and flexibility in responding to the needs of young people, adapting sessions and programmes where necessary to ensure accessibility and inclusion for all participants.
Communicate effectively and professionally with young people, parents/carers, colleagues, and senior management through both verbal and written communication.
Produce clear and accurate debrief reports for internal use and to support reporting requirements for external funders and stakeholders.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on Asana relating to young people supported, ensuring all information is recorded appropriately (training provided).
Work collaboratively and positively with colleagues, volunteers, and young leaders to create a supportive and effective team environment.
Proactively challenge and address bullying, harassment, and discrimination, while promoting inclusion, respect, and positive relationships.
Adhere to all We Are Noise and BYZ/DYZ policies and procedures at all times, with particular attention to safeguarding, health and safety, equal opportunities, and positive behaviour management.
Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times, responding appropriately to any safeguarding concerns that arise.
Represent We Are Noise positively at all times through professionalism, punctuality, reliability, and appropriate conduct.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Is:

Experienced in working with young people in youth work, community or creative settings
Confident supporting young people with SEND or behavioural challenges
Positive, energetic and engaging
Able to build rapport quickly with young people
Passionate about music and creative arts
Comfortable leading creative activities with groups
Reliable, professional and adaptable

Applicants Must Also Have:

Previous experience working with young people
References from relevant roles
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

Desirable (But Not Essential):

Experience working in youth centres or community youth provision
Skills in music production, instrumentation, DJing or other music/media formats
Experience supporting SEMH or SEND young people

Working Pattern:

This is a freelance sessional role. Working hours vary depending on partner requirements, but typical hours may include:

Monday - 4-8pm

Friday - 4-8pm

Saturday - 1-4pm

Please note this role is freelance, and the successful applicant will be responsible for their own tax and National Insurance contributions.

Pay: £15.00 per hour

Work Location: In person
