Senior Leadership Role | Strategic Growth Opportunity

Are you a senior insurance or professional risks lawyer looking for a genuine opportunity to shape, grow and lead a specialist practice within a people first business?

Markel Law is looking for an accomplished lawyer at Partner level (or ready to step up) to play a key role in the continued growth of our Professional Risks team, with a particular focus on construction-related claims and coverage work.

Influence strategy and direction at a senior level
Take a leadership role within a highly regarded, Tier 2 Legal 500-ranked team
Help expand a core service offering supported by a strong pipeline of insurer instructions
Build and develop relationships across Markel UK and Markel International, with clear scope for future growth

The role:

Based in Manchester, you will join and help lead our growing Professional Risks team, working on a broad range of insured and uninsured matters including:

Professional liability, public liability and property damage claims
Significant coverage advice
Claims ranging from small matters to multi‑million‑pound disputes
A strong emphasis on construction professionals, alongside other regulated and professional sectors

You’ll act as both a day-to-day case lead and a supervisor and mentor, while playing a visible role in:

Team leadership and development
Business development and relationship management
Strategic planning and service expansion
Supporting Markel Law’s advice line, hub content and wider profile

What we’re looking for:

We’re keen to speak with senior lawyers who can demonstrate:

Significant experience defending liability claims, ideally within a construction or built environment context
Strong expertise in policy coverage advice
Technical excellence combined with commercial, pragmatic judgement
A proven ability to build relationships with insurers, brokers and internal partners
Confidence in business development and contributing to sustainable growth
Experience supervising and developing other lawyers
A sound understanding of the legal–insurance interface
