HR Assistant (HR Administration)
Location: Amersham, Buckinghamshire
Reporting to: HR Officer
Oversight: Head of HR
About the Role
We’re looking for a highly organised and proactive HR Assistant to support the day-to-day running of our HR function within a busy legal firm of circa 130 employees and consultants.
This is a fast-paced, hands-on admin role where you’ll be at the centre of HR operations — keeping systems up to date, processes moving, and ensuring nothing slips through the cracks. The role is focused on core HR administration, with the opportunity to grow into wider HR responsibilities over time if that’s something you’re interested in.
What you will be doing (not exhaustive)
- Be the go-to person for HR administration, keeping everything organised and running smoothly
- Manage onboarding from start to finish — from offer letters to ensuring new starters are set up and ready
- Keep our HR system and trackers accurate, up to date and audit-ready
- Own the HR inbox, prioritising and escalating queries efficiently
- Coordinate the admin side of recruitment — scheduling interviews and keeping hiring managers on track
- Track and manage probation reviews, making sure deadlines are met
- Prepare and issue contracts, amendments and standard HR letters
- Support the team with day-to-day HR admin, especially when priorities shift
Working Environment
This is a busy, high-volume role where you will:
- Juggle multiple tasks at once (e.g. onboarding, contracts, urgent requests)
- Need to prioritise quickly and switch focus throughout the day
- Work in a small HR team where everyone contributes
- Be relied on to keep things moving and stay on top of detail
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Previous administrative experience (HR helpful but not essential)
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
- Confident using systems, SharePoint and Microsoft Applications.
- Able to manage workload independently and meet deadlines
- Clear, professional communication skills
Desirable
- HR administration experience
- Experience within a professional services environment
- Experience using HR systems
About You
You are:
- Organised, dependable and practical
- Comfortable handling a high volume of admin work
- Confident working independently on routine tasks
- Detail-focused and take pride in getting things right
- Calm under pressure and able to adapt when priorities change
Development
