Finance Manager
Bespoke Cabinet Makers | Dorset-based | International Commissions
We are a bespoke cabinet making and furniture studio based in Dorset, creating finely crafted interiors, furniture and architectural joinery for private clients, designers and architects around the world.
As the business continues to develop, we are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Finance Manager to oversee our financial operations and support the next stage of growth. This is a key role within a small, highly skilled team, working closely with the directors, senior leadership team and our French owners to provide clear financial insight, robust reporting and practical support for business progression.
The ideal candidate will be confident working in a creative, project-led environment where craftsmanship, precision, discretion and commercial awareness matter.
The Role
The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the company’s financial systems, reporting, payroll, cashflow, project accounting, audit preparation and compliance with relevant regulations. The team does have a project specific account manager alongside an experienced accounts assistant supporting you within the role. You will play an important role in helping the business move forward, supporting strategic decision-making, improving financial processes and ensuring that the company has the information it needs to grow sustainably. This role requires strong leadership, expertise in financial management, and a comprehensive understanding of financial services and accounting principles.
You will work closely with our French owners, providing accurate reporting, financial updates and insight as required, while also supporting the day-to-day needs of the Dorset-based team.
Key Responsibilities
Managing day-to-day finance operations, including bookkeeping oversight, purchase ledger, sales ledger, reconciliations and payment runs.
Preparing management accounts, financial reports, budgets and cashflow forecasts.
Monitoring project budgets, costs and margins across bespoke commissions.
Supporting pricing, forecasting and financial planning for future work.
Working closely with the directors and French owners to provide clear financial reporting, commentary and commercial insight.
Preparing for and supporting the annual audit process, including liaising with external accountants and auditors.
Overseeing VAT, tax-related administration and statutory compliance requirements.
Managing invoicing schedules, supplier payments and client payment tracking.
Supporting international transactions, including currency considerations, import/export costs and overseas client payments.
Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems, controls, reporting processes, identify trends, risks, and opportunities for growth.
Providing financial input to help progress the business, improve profitability and support long-term planning.
Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring strong internal financial discipline.
About You
You will be organised, commercially aware and confident working in a hands-on role within a growing creative business. You will understand the importance of accuracy, confidentiality and clear communication, while also being proactive in identifying ways to improve how the business operates financially. Self-motivated, keen to seek out areas to improve and embrace continuous improvements.
You should be comfortable working with owners, directors and colleagues across the business, translating financial information into clear, useful insight that supports better decision-making.
Skills and Experience
Experience in a finance management, accounting or senior finance role.
Strong understanding of management accounts, cashflow, budgeting and financial reporting.
Experience preparing for annual audits and liaising with external auditors or accountants.
Experience with project-based costing, job costing or margin analysis would be highly beneficial.
Confident using accounting software such as Xero, and able to convert to business specific documentation.
Strong Excel or spreadsheet skills.
Excellent attention to detail and a methodical, accurate approach.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues and business owners.
Commercially minded, with the ability to support business improvement and growth.
Experience in manufacturing, interiors, construction, design, furniture, architecture or another project-led business would be an advantage but not essential.
French language skills would be beneficial but not essential.
Professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA are highly desirable but not mandatory. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated finance professional to contribute significantly to organisational success through strategic oversight and expert financial stewardship.

Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
Hours vary dependent on applicant- Max of 40 hours but this is flexible to work over 5 days with only 6 hour days to make 32 hours total.
Pay: £32,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
