Salary: £22,601 to £35,259 per annum pro rata

Grade: Unqualified Teachers Pay Scale

Contract Type: Fixed term until 31st August 2028

Hours: Various

Location: Selby, North Yorkshire

Weekend Working: If desired

This role requires travel across the county.

Required to start in September 2026

North Yorkshire is a thriving county that continues to adapt to a changing world while remaining a special place to live and work.

We have several exciting opportunities to join the Music Service team as an Instrumental Instructor.

These roles involve working across a range of educational settings throughout North Yorkshire, delivering instrumental tuition to children both individually and in small group sessions.

There are also opportunities to deliver whole-class instrumental teaching, which is payable on the Qualified Teacher Pay Scale for those holding QTS.

As the roles are based across the county, the ability to travel is essential. Travel time between schools is paid at the same hourly rate as teaching, and travel expenses are reimbursed.

In this role, you will plan and deliver lessons throughout the academic year, assess pupil progress, and provide regular feedback to parents/carers and schools.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Excellent instrumental skills
Effective teaching strategies for instrumental music
Experience using a range of musical resources
Strong written and verbal communication skills

If your application is successful, you will be invited to interview and given the opportunity to demonstrate your teaching.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

Degree or postgraduate qualification in music/performance.
Strong knowledge of instrumental repertoire and teaching strategies.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to travel across the county and work flexibly, including evenings/weekends.

Desirable:

Ability to teach/play more than one instrument.
Experience in safeguarding and partnership working.
