The Opportunity
- Support the delivery of practical advisory work for owner-managed businesses across the North East, helping clients understand their financial position, plan ahead and make better-informed decisions.
- Work closely with managers and directors on a range of advisory assignments, developing your commercial awareness and your understanding of how businesses actually operate.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Delivery
- Prepare management information for clients: income statements, balance sheet summaries and cash flow statements in a clear, client-usable format.
- Support forecasting and budgeting assignments: gather data, prepare draft models and update outputs under manager guidance.
- Assist with cash flow analysis and working capital reviews.
- Prepare concise reporting packs and summaries for client meetings.
- Contribute to business review preparation: collate information, draft sections and produce supporting analysis.
- Support advisory pipeline tracking and assignment administration.
- Record time accurately on all assignments.
- Support bookkeeping activities, including preparation and submission of VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Technical & Compliance
- Maintain accuracy and consistency in all financial modelling and management information.
- Apply GDPR standards in all client data handling.
- Observe professional conduct and confidentiality standards throughout.
- Sage: day-to-day system management, maintenance, and oversight of Sage processes and functionality within the business.
Client Engagement
- Support managers and directors in client meetings by preparing materials, taking notes and following up on actions.
- Develop genuine curiosity about client businesses — how they operate, what challenges they face and what would actually help them.
- Handle routine client queries and information requests under manager supervision.
Planning & Coordination
- Manage own workload across concurrent assignments and deadlines effectively.
- Track advisory assignment status and maintain documentation accurately.
- Communicate progress and any issues to the manager promptly.
Commercial Awareness
- Develop an early understanding of advisory project economics, time recording and what efficient delivery looks like.
Systems & Digital
- Excel: financial analysis and modelling used in day-to-day advisory work.
- Cloud accounting platforms (Xero, QuickBooks): awareness developing.
- CCH and practice management systems: assignment administration.
- Microsoft 365 and Teams in daily use.
- Sage
Quality & Standards
- Produce management information and supporting analysis that is accurate and clearly presented.
- Take care and ownership of the quality of everything leaving your desk.
Qualifications & Experience
- A relevant degree or equivalent. Strong numerical ability and genuine interest in how businesses work.
- Some prior accounting, finance or business analysis experience is advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Excel: data analysis and financial modelling.
- Financial statements: ability to read, interpret and work with management accounts.
- Cloud accounting platforms: Xero or QuickBooks awareness.
- CCH: developing familiarity.
Communication Skills
- Clear and professional in written and verbal communication.
- Presents information clearly to managers and in support of client meetings.
- Asks questions when uncertain and applies feedback constructively.
