Full job description

We are currently recruiting a Value-Added Concrete (VACP) Technician to join our Technical Services team based at our laboratory in Rigifa, Cove, Aberdeen.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced person to advance their career by supporting the on-going development of value-added concrete products (self-compacting concrete, liquid screed, etc.). The role includes working in a UKAS accredited laboratory with one of Scotland’s largest privately-owned quarrying and civil engineering businesses.

This full-time role will involve travel to all Leiths concrete plants as well as project site support throughout Scotland.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Monitoring the consistency of concrete and related materials including:
Inspection of aggregate stockpiles for continual suitability;
Sampling and grading of aggregate feed materials;
Measuring slump, flow, air content and density of freshly mixed concrete;
Casting and curing of concrete cubes/prisms;
Carry out site inspections on the preparation of a site for value-added concrete;
Carry out site inspections on the placing and finishing of value-added concrete; and
Complete and submit inspections forms for review.
Compressive strength testing of concrete cubes in the laboratory.
Support in carrying out plant and laboratory trials of new and existing concrete mixes.
Supporting the Concrete Supervisor and Plant Operatives either at the plant or from site during critical pours.
Supporting Leiths Customers on site during delivery and placement of concrete.
Working closely with Leiths product suppliers (cement and admixtures) in development of future mixes.
Providing real-time feedback of information to appropriate personnel and provide detailed reports as requested

About You:

Knowledge of British testing and related standards and specifications for concrete.
Experience in testing and inspection of fresh and hardened concrete.
Good attention to detail.
Good verbal and written communication.
Good interpersonal skills.
Highly conscientious and diligent.
Self-motivated with a hands-on approach to work.
Strong and flexible work ethic.
Professionalism in dealing with customers and colleagues.
Valid driver’s licence
Right to work in the UK.
