The Opportunity
- Take ownership of defined advisory assignments and contribute meaningfully to client meetings, management reporting and practical financial support for a growing portfolio of owner-managed businesses.
- Develop your advisory skills and commercial confidence by working closely with managers, supporting forecasting discussions, business reviews and cross-referral activity.
- Build genuine working relationships with clients and contribute to the development of junior analysts in the team.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Delivery
- Manage defined advisory assignments with appropriate manager oversight.
- Prepare and explain management accounts and financial information in client meetings, making it clear and actionable for non-specialist business owners.
- Support forecasting and budgeting discussions: prepare models, explain assumptions and update outputs in response to client conversations.
- Identify practical operational or financial improvement opportunities during client work and raise with the manager.
- Coordinate advisory workflow across assignments: track progress, maintain documentation and manage client information requests.
- Support cross-referral coordination: identify potential referrals to Audit, Accounts and Tax and flag to the manager.
- Prepare advisory notes, summaries and reports for client meetings to a clear, professional standard.
Technical & Compliance
- Maintain accuracy and integrity in all financial modelling and advisory outputs.
- Apply GDPR standards in all client data handling.
- Observe professional conduct and confidentiality standards.
Review & Supervision
- Review and provide feedback on work produced by Business Advisory Analysts.
- Support on-the-job development of junior analysts.
- Identify quality issues and escalate to the manager promptly.
Client Engagement
- Act as a day-to-day contact for clients on active advisory assignments.
- Build genuine professional relationships with client contacts — take an interest in their businesses and be someone they find reliably helpful.
- Support client meetings professionally, contributing to discussions and following up on actions.
Planning & Coordination
- Manage own time effectively across concurrent advisory assignments.
- Coordinate advisory assignment workflow and track progress against timelines.
- Communicate issues and progress to the manager proactively.
Commercial Awareness
- Maintain accurate WIP records and raise cost or schedule concerns promptly.
- Develop a practical understanding of advisory project economics and billing.
- Begin to identify advisory pipeline opportunities within the client base and refer to the manager.
Systems & Digital
- Excel: financial modelling and analysis used in day-to-day advisory work.
- Cloud accounting platforms: Sage Online, Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent — working proficiency.
- CCH: assignment and practice management.
- Microsoft 365 and Teams in daily use.
Quality & Standards
- Deliver advisory outputs that are accurate, clearly presented and genuinely useful to clients.
- Maintain consistent attention to detail across all assignments.
Qualifications & Experience
- ACA/ACCA/CA finalist or qualified, ATT, or equivalent (desirable, not essential).
- Typically two or more years of accounts, finance or advisory experience in practice.
- A practical approach and genuine interest in how businesses work.
Technical Skills
- Excel: financial modelling and analysis.
- Management accounts: preparation and interpretation.
- Cloud accounting platforms: Sage Online, Xero or QuickBooks proficiency.
- Forecasting and budgeting: developing capability.
- VAT processing and VAT compliance experience
Communication Skills
- Clear and professional with clients and colleagues.
- Able to explain financial information clearly to non-specialist business owners.
- Gives constructive feedback to junior analysts.
