MAJOR FUNCTIONS
GPSS Limited is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Head of Business Development to lead business growth across marine logistics, port services, project cargo, vessel agency, warehousing, heavy lift transportation, and supply chain solutions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, developing strategic client relationships, expanding existing accounts, and increasing market reach within the shipping, offshore, marine, renewable energy, and port sectors.
The role requires a competent individual with a proven track record of delivering commercial growth within the shipping, marine logistics, or port operations industry.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Sales
- Develop and implement the GPSS Shipping business development strategy aligned with company growth objectives.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities across shipping, marine logistics, offshore energy, renewables, ports, and industrial sectors.
- Generate sustainable revenue growth through a combination of new client acquisition and account development.
- Lead tender submissions, commercial proposals, contract negotiations, and bid presentations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers, procurement teams, vessel operators, project managers, contractors, port authorities, and logistics providers.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and deliver regular forecasting and performance reports.
Market & Strategic Development
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, emerging technologies, and sector opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for service diversification and expansion into new markets.
- Support acquisition opportunities, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships where appropriate.
- Develop market intelligence to support future investment and growth initiatives.
Client Relationship Management
- Act as a senior point of contact for key customers and strategic accounts.
- Establish long-term commercial partnerships with existing and prospective clients.
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure successful service delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Support contract renewals and framework agreement negotiations.
Technical & Commercial Support
- Provide technical input during project planning and commercial evaluations.
- Review engineering and operational requirements to ensure commercially viable solutions are developed.
- Collaborate with operational, logistics, engineering, and project management teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Support pricing strategies and commercial risk assessments.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience
- Experience within business development, sales, or commercial leadership roles.
- Proven track record of delivering significant revenue growth within:
- Shipping
- Marine Logistics
- Port Operations
- Project Cargo Logistics
- Renewable Energy Logistics
- Experience developing and managing strategic client relationships at senior level.
- Strong understanding of port operations, vessel logistics, heavy lift transportation, and supply chain management.
- Experience preparing and negotiating high-value contracts and commercial agreements.
- Demonstrable experience working within technically complex engineering environments.
