General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a full-time Buyer to join our Supply Chain Team, based in Merthyr Tydfil. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £31,200 to £39,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally.
Joining an established team, the successful candidate will coach & guide more junior colleagues in the use of such processes, systems & technologies that underpin procurement operations ‘standard working’.
Are competent and confident working within MRP guidelines, processes and procedures and able to ensure all business material requirements and demands are managed in an effective, timely manner and aligned to the business needs. This requires the ability to assess and prioritise all stakeholder requirements to maximize the best outcome and mininise any potential risk to the organisation.
Can confidently engage, build and maintain strong working relationships with GDLS-UK production, operations & sustainment teams, whilst at all times understanding the importance of delivering materials on time, to the correct quality and at the right price. Is capable of promoting the value and influence of procurement within GDLS-UK and can clearly communicate both verbally and written when dealing with key supply partners.

Interrogates demand, analyses against business requirements and manages material demands in alignment with the business needs.

Can interpret bills of materials, specifications and drawings to deliver the best outcomes.

Ensures that the quantities and quality standards of materials purchased are aligned to the contracted arrangements.

Able to identify and prioritise delivery of key materials with suppliers to ensure sufficient supply is available to meet GDLS-UK programme schedules.

Proactively expedites material orders and deliveries, taking actions to escalate appropriately when any risk is identified and or schedules are impacted.

Develops good working relationships with key suppliers and ensures we maximise their delivery performance.

Ensures compliance with organizational procedures and processes, acts as a guide and mentor to more junior colleagues.

Where appropriate works with internal stakeholders and customers to identify added value opportunities.

Manages all ‘standard working’ operations / activities and ensures they are carried out in adherence with stipulated timescales.

Where appropriate liaise with key internal departments to ensure that required materials and or products meet the correct specifications, quality and are readily available for use.

Compile RFQ /I’s for identified material requirements as necessary & can interpret & analyse the links between cost; price & margin.

Monitor cost compliance, take remedial action on any apparent deviations, offering appropriate value solutions as mitigation.

Diagnoses the causes of delivery failure, undertakes root cause analysis and takes action to prevent re-occurrences.

Degree or Demonstrable Experience

Experience managing a B2B relationship

Experience in Oracle supply chain management

Microsoft Office – Intermediate Minimum

Consistently demonstrates the values & ethics of GDLS-UK supply chain.
