Applicants are invited to apply for a part-time position (15 hours per week) within the Mortuary Department at Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth.
Duties will primarily be based within the mortuary service at Bronglais General Hospital however, the post holders will be required to demonstrate flexibility to travel to other mortuary sites for training and service cover as required.
The roles will involve working as part of a rota to ensure appropriate service provision. Candidates must be flexible to cover shifts in line with service needs, and there may be opportunities for additional hours, depending on service demand.
No formal professional qualification is required; however, applicants should have a good level of education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics, and a Science subject, alongside an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent). Previous experience working with patients and/or relatives in a healthcare setting is essential.
The successful candidates will demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering a high-quality, respectful service within the mortuary environment. They must be able to work independently, manage their own workload effectively, and operate confidently as lone workers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of mortuary duties and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the department.
Key responsibilities will include the receipt and release of the deceased, accurate recording of valuables and personal property, and preparing the deceased for viewing.
The postholder will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of the mortuary, completing daily worksheets, and carrying out monthly audits.
The role requires effective communication with a broad range of staff and service users, including bereaved relatives, the Medical Examiner Service, hospital wards, and the Coroner’s Service.
A broad knowledge of modern mortuary practices and techniques, along with an in-depth understanding of current legislation, is desirable.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; however, applications are equally welcomed from English and/or Welsh speakers.
