The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis and early-stage commercialisation. Our mission is to make significant scientific breakthroughs in battery technology research towards decarbonisation and in the global race to electrification.
We bring together 500 researchers across 25 UK universities and work with 150 UK industry partners. Based at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, our head office is small, collaborative and central to the success and visibility of the organisation.
We are seeking a tech-savvy Digital Communications Co-ordinator to lead and grow our digital presence and to provide wider support across the Engagement, Education, Events and other teams. This role will shape how we communicate opportunities and impact associated with our research, commercialisation, training and policy initiatives, and engage our audiences, across, web, social media and other online platforms.
The Digital Communications Co-ordinator will facilitate the successful delivery of multiple impactful initiatives including via delivery of high-quality online and in-person events. The person in the role will take ownership day-to-day of digital channels while contributing to wider communications planning and campaigns.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone at an early stage in their science communications career to develop their skills in a nationally significant research organisation, with scope to grow into broader strategic responsibilities. The role would suit a resilient and confident individual who can operate largely under their own initiative and who thrives on working in a fast-paced environment on a variety of projects.

Key responsibilities
- Create and manage high-quality, audience-focused content across digital channels, particularly LinkedIn and the website
- Lead on social media planning and delivery, including supporting colleagues and research teams to engage effectively online
- Support the planning, promotion, delivery and technical support for webinars and some other training sessions and events (online and in-person)
- Monitor and analyse digital performance, using insights to improve content, campaigns and audience reach
- Maintain and develop website content (WordPress), ensuring it remains current, accessible and aligned with organisational priorities
- Develop compelling stories that communicate the impact of Faraday Institution research and activities (including visually)
- Manage email communications and distribution lists (Hubspot)
- Keep up to date with digital trends and best practice to continuously improve our approach
- Support the FIHQ and community to ensure communications are accessible and meeting brand guidelines
- ·Support across FIHQ with digital agility in the use of other digital tools where needed
As the organisation develops further, this role will constantly evolve to encompass new tasks including more involvement in the digital communications strategy.
Skills / experience
- Strong writing and storytelling skills, with experience of creating content, ideally for different audiences and platforms
- Experience with digital tools such as WordPress, HubSpot, Zoom Webinar, SurveyMonkey, Canva, Eventbrite, or similar (or the ability to learn quickly)
- Experience managing or contributing to professional social media (LinkedIn) accounts, ideally with demonstrable record of delivering creative written and visual content
- Confidence and professionalism in representing the organisation, including interacting with government offices, senior academics and researchers working in industry
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently under own initiative, and collaboratively
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Highly desirable
- A scientific background and degree qualification or equivalent, or experience with science communication

- Location: Blended working from home and based at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, near Oxford, UK (at least two days a week in the office)
