An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Property Services team for a Health and Safety Lead. In this key role, you will provide expert advice and leadership on health and safety across a range of construction and maintenance activities, ensuring full compliance with legislation and best practice. You will support managers on complex safety matters, drive continuous improvement, and lead on the development of policies, procedures, and safety systems. We are looking for a skilled and proactive professional with experience in a local authority or similar environment, who is passionate about delivering safe, high-quality services.

£48,226 - £51,356 (pro-rata, per annum)
To provide a professional, high level dedicated Health and Safety advisory service to Property Services strategic and operational management construction activities of circa £30m per annum, supporting the departments senior management team on complex health and safety issues and risks ensuring legislative compliance achievement in the management and delivery of construction and maintenance work programmes, delivering interventions and solutions that are cost effective, proactive and responsive to customer and departmental needs.
- Developing Health & Safety policies and procedures for the service area
- Creating and developing service area training plans
- Creating, storing and managing service area Health & Safety specific documentation
- Providing Health & Safety advice and support to the wider service area
- Identifying training needs within the service area
- Creating and maintaining an effective safety management system for property services
- Liaising with contractors on matters concerning Health and Safety
- Undertaking Health & Safety audits in relation to construction activity
- Compiling Health & Safety performance reports and corrective action plans to understand the Council’s compliance with health & safety legislation
- Liaising with external organisations and governing bodies on matters relating to Health & Safety
- Experience of delivering, monitoring and planning services at an Operational level in a Construction / Maintenance related workplace.
- Undertaking Change Management, planning and implementing new ways of working.
- Problem solving and analytical based upon acquired systemic knowledge and experience usually requiring the adaptation of new and existing systems and processes in response to technical or operational needs.
- Previous proven management experience as a H&S advisor within a multi operational environment.
- Using professional judgement when advising on best practice to operate within statutory obligations but deliver best value to maintain performance for the customer/ council services.
