ISD is modernising UCL’s technology foundations, digitising core processes and strengthening strategic partnerships across the university.

Faculty IT & Partnering (FITP) provides local specialist systems support and strategic IT business partnering to faculties and research units, including clinical trials environments.

About the role

UCL has invested in several shared technology platforms supporting clinical trials across units within the Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology (ICTM) and beyond.

As Clinical Trials Shared Platforms Manager, you will work closely with senior users across multiple trials units and colleagues across ISD to manage the configuration, governance and use of shared clinical trials platforms, including Electronic Trial Master File (eTMF), Electronic Data Capture (EDC) and new platforms as they are introduced.

You will act as the institutional lead and administrator for these platforms, ensuring they remain validated, compliant with regulatory and industry standards, and fully support UCL’s responsibilities as a sponsor of clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities:

Platform administration and leadership
Act as the administrator for eTMF, EDC and other shared clinical trials platforms spanning multiple trials units.
Be a senior technical resource managing cloud‑based clinical trials platforms.
Coordinate platform use across multiple trials and units, ensuring differing requirements are understood and reflected in configuration.
Gather user configuration requirements and identify impacts and development needs.
Support to users and technical teams.
Create and maintain strong working relationships with senior users and technical teams.
Support onboarding of new units and trials, including access management, training and configuration.
Be accountable for resolving and escalating incidents and managing user requests in collaboration with suppliers and data managers.
Act as the final point of escalation for platform‑related queries.
Communicate key information to stakeholders, including system releases and issues.
Compliance, validation and governance
Ensure platforms remain validated in line with regulatory, legislative and recognised industry standards.
Maintain data quality standards and participate in platform audits.
Create and maintain documentation required to support compliance and governance.
Maximising value and future development
Monitor supplier performance and service levels.
Lead proactive discussions with stakeholders to understand business needs and prioritise enhancements.
Contribute to project teams delivering new or enhanced shared clinical trials platforms.

About you

Essential

Strong understanding of clinical trials processes and regulations.
Experience managing digital and data systems used in clinical or medical research.
Experience with validated document management and/or data acquisition systems.
Knowledge of data protection and privacy legislation (e.g. GDPR).
Experience delivering technical change in complex environments.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders.

Desirable

Experience managing cloud‑based clinical trials platforms.
Knowledge of CDISC and the TMF Reference Model.
Experience working within formal project or agile delivery environments.
Knowledge of UCL or the higher‑education research context.
