About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate/ Assistant and Consultant Ecologist to join our growing ecology team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop ecological skills and gain practical experience across a range of projects within the infrastructure, development, conservation, and environmental sectors within a small friendy consultancy.
The successful candidate will support ecological surveys, report writing, data analysis, and project delivery while working alongside experienced ecologists. The role offers structured training, mentoring, and opportunities for professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with a range of ecological field surveys.
- Support Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
- Collect, record, and manage ecological data in accordance with industry standards.
- Undertake desk studies and review ecological datasets.
- Support habitat mapping using QGIS.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures during fieldwork.
- Participate in evening and early morning surveys during peak survey seasons.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Degree (BSc or MSc) in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biological Sciences, Conservation, or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in ecology and environmental consultancy.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Full UK driving licence, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel to project sites.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Previous ecological survey experience through employment, internships, placements, or volunteering.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or eligibility for membership.
- Experience using QGIS or ArcGIS.
- Consultant Role: FISC/ Protected Species Licences
