Senior Compliance Officer (Legal & Regulatory)

Position: Full-Time
Working hours: 9 hours per day, 5 days a week
Salary: £40,000 per annum
Location: Birmingham, onsite
Closing date: 24 August 2026

The role offers exposure to digital payments, financial regulation, commercial contracts and a growing network of global banking and payout partners.

The role

We are seeking a Senior Compliance Officer to support the MLRO and senior management with day-to-day compliance, financial-crime and legal matters.

The role combines practical compliance casework with regulatory research, policy drafting, contract review and partner due diligence. It is particularly suitable for a compliance professional with a legal or commercial-law background.

Key responsibilitiesCompliance and financial crime

Review higher-risk onboarding, EDD and transaction-monitoring cases.
Investigate PEP, sanctions, adverse-media and suspicious-activity alerts.
Review source-of-funds and source-of-wealth evidence.
Escalate potentially suspicious activity to the MLRO.
Support ongoing monitoring of customers and transactions.
Provide practical compliance guidance to operational and customer-service teams.

Legal and commercial

Review customer terms, supplier agreements and contracts with banks, payment providers and payout partners.
Identify and report contractual risks relating to fees, liability, termination, data protection, audit rights and service obligations.
Support the drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements.
Conduct legal and regulatory research relevant to the company’s services and partnerships.
Assist with due diligence on new suppliers and international partners.
Track contract renewals, termination dates and key contractual obligations.
Liaise with external legal advisers where specialist advice is required.

Monitoring and regulatory support

Asssit with draft and update compliance policies, procedures and risk assessments.
Assist with the collection and checking of information needed for FCA returns and regulatory requests.
Prepare compliance reports and management information.
Support internal and external audits.
Deliver compliance training to employees.
Support and supervise junior compliance team members when required.

Essential requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Law, Commercial Law, Business Law, Law with Business or a closely related discipline.
At least two years’ relevant experience in compliance, financial crime, legal services or financial regulation.
Experience within payments, fintech, banking or money remittance.
Good understanding of AML/CTF, CDD, EDD, sanctions and transaction monitoring.
Ability to review contracts and identify legal, regulatory and commercial risks.
Strong research, analysis and drafting skills.
Clear written and verbal communication.
Good professional judgement and attention to detail.
Right to work in the United Kingdom.

Desirable requirements

ICA, ACAMS or another recognised compliance qualification.
Experience within an authorised payment institution or electronic money institution.
Knowledge of safeguarding, Consumer Duty or FCA reporting.
Experience reviewing commercial contracts or partner agreements.
Experience overseeing agents or international payment partners.
Experience supporting junior team members.

Language requirements

Excellent written and spoken English is essential.

Fluency in Arabic would be an advantage.
