Company Description

Newrotex is an innovative company at the forefront of medical advancements in peripheral nerve repair. The company specialises in the development of medical devices using spider silk.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site position for a Laboratory Technician based at the Wood Centre for Innovation in Headington, Oxford. A Laboratory Technician at Newrotex typically spends their time between spider husbandry and reeling spider silk within a laminar flow cabinet in aseptic conditions.

Duties and responsibilities

The Laboratory Technician will be required to take responsibility for the husbandry of the spiders held on site at Newrotex.
Responsible for reeling spider silk within a laminar flow cabinet in order to procedure spider silk in a controlled environment.
Responsible for following procedures in terms of comportment, cleanliness, contamination control, spider reeling, spider husbandry, and procedures of the quality management system.
Supporting product design and development activities.
Writing review and approving procedures and documents as required.
Supporting audits, internal and external.
Completing training tasks as required according to Training Requirements Matrix

Qualifications

Education – Degree in a Life science
Specialized knowledge – Understanding of contamination control and working in controlled environments.
Skills & Attributes – A Self-starter, keen to learn, capable of organising own workload. Quick to raise ideas for improvement or nonconformances to management.
Abilities – Flexible approach to work, team player, use of Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel.
Professional Certification – Not required.
Experience – experience of working in a GMP controlled environment preferred. Understanding of contamination risks.
Working conditions – will be required to work in a laminar flow cabinet, sitting down for prolonged periods.
