Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, practical, and hardworking Maintenance & Groundskeeping Assistant to help maintain our premises, buildings, and outdoor areas to a high standard. Working Friday through Sunday, you will play a key role in ensuring our facilities remain safe, clean, attractive, and well-maintained for visitors, staff, and residents.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working both indoors and outdoors, has a positive attitude, and takes pride in delivering high-quality maintenance and groundskeeping services.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine maintenance and minor repair work to buildings, fixtures, and equipment.
- Maintain gardens, lawns, pathways, and outdoor spaces, including mowing, strimming, hedge trimming, weeding, planting, and seasonal upkeep.
- Keep all external areas clean, tidy, and free from litter and hazards.
- Complete basic decorating, painting, and touch-up work as required.
- Perform regular inspections of buildings and grounds, reporting defects or safety concerns promptly.
- Assist with setting up rooms and outdoor areas for events or activities.
- Carry out routine health and safety checks, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment and hand tools safely.
- Support contractors on-site where required.
- Assist with waste management and recycling duties.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies during working hours.
- Undertake other reasonable maintenance and facilities duties as directed by the Facilities or Site Manager.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in general maintenance, facilities, caretaking, groundskeeping, or a similar practical role.
- Competent in using a range of hand and power tools safely.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and grounds maintenance techniques.
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
- Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual tasks and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and punctual.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
Desirable
- Experience operating grounds maintenance machinery.
- Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or painting and decorating skills.
- Health & Safety qualification or awareness training.
- Full UK driving licence.
