Full job description

A development opportunity has arisen within the Oncology Day units at Alnwick and Berwick for a Manager ( Band 7) to provide clinical/operational management for patients undertaking Systematic Anti-Cancer Treatment.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the nurse led Oncology Day Units treating a range of tumour groups. You will work closely with the wider members of the MDT, palliative care and other clinicians in providing high quality care.

To provide clinical expertise through the role of Oncology Day Unit manager to manage and develop the service . The post holder will work in close liaison with the other Unit Manager, and other Deputy Sister/ Deputy Charge Nurses, Matrons, Practice Development Team (PDT) and the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to provide the highest quality of assessment and evaluated care required to support each patient in their care pathway and improve the patient experience.

Candidates should be working within the SACT service and have significant post registration experience including previous experience of giving SACT and managing toxicities/acute oncology symptoms.

Enhanced knowledge and decision-making skills are essential and completion of, the clinical skills course or equivalent would be an advantage.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.

To be responsible for co-ordinating the provision of continuous clinical care within allocated resources, providing a quality service and high clinical standards for all patients in your area
To be responsible for the management of all human resource issues relating to the staff employed in your area
To act as Budget Holder, accountable for the management of the unit budget, and for the management of the charitable fund
To exercise accountability as set out in the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership
To liaise and co-ordinate the ODU team through the use of effective communication and evidence-based practice
To provide the highest standard of holistic care for Oncology /Haematology patients undergoing treatment and supportive care, through the utilisation of advanced clinical skills.
To contribute to the setting, standardisation and maintaining of standards of care across all sites delivering Chemotherapy and SACT Trust wide
To participate in the on- call rota for the Trust wide Chemotherapy Emergency Helpline
