Full job description

Farm Shop and Plant Assistant

We’re a busy, family-run farm with a thriving farm shop and plant area, and we’re looking for an experienced, hands-on assistant to join our team. Full-time or part-time options available. Weekend work is essential.

What you’ll do

Provide friendly, knowledgeable customer service in the farm shop and plant area
Advise customers on plants, seasonal stock, and care
Operate tills, handle payments, restock displays, and maintain tidy, attractive merchandising
Receive and rotate stock; lift and move items safely (plants, compost, produce)
Water, care for, and label plants; monitor quality and health
Keep the shop, plant area, and back-of-house clean and organised
Work calmly and efficiently in a very fast-paced, high-pressure environment

What we’re looking for

Proven experience in a similar retail/garden centre/farm shop/plant nursery role
Solid plant knowledge (annuals, perennials, herbs, veg, shrubs; care and seasonality)
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Hard-working, reliable, and comfortable with physical, on-your-feet work
Able to multitask, prioritise, and stay accurate under pressure
Confident with basic POS/till systems and cash handling
Flexible availability, including weekends and peak seasonal periods

Hours and pay

Full-time or part-time; regular weekend shifts required
Competitive pay based on experience, plus staff discount on shop and plant purchases
Training on our product range and seasonal lines
On-site parking
