The Role:

Join Hampshire County Council’s Universal Services Information Governance Team and help ensure the Council meets its statutory responsibilities for handling information.

This is an opportunity to work in a high-profile and meaningful area, supporting transparency, accountability and public trust. You will play a key role in helping the Council comply with information governance legislation, including Freedom of Information, Environmental Information Regulations and data protection.

Working in a fast-paced environment with statutory deadlines, you will develop your knowledge of information governance and build valuable experience in applying legislation in practice.

What you’ll do:

As an Information Governance Officer, you will deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service by supporting the management of FOI, EIR, complaints, and data protection queries. You will handle enquiries, prepare accurate correspondence, review and redact documents in line with legislation, and maintain detailed records using case management systems. The role includes monitoring deadlines, liaising with services to obtain information, and providing guidance to colleagues on governance processes. You will also contribute to service improvements while managing competing priorities and maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a motivated and highly organised individual to join our team, who can demonstrate strong administrative and organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload effectively. The successful candidate will have excellent attention to detail and accuracy when handling data and documents, alongside strong communication skills, enabling them to respond clearly and professionally to a range of audiences. You will be confident in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as other systems, and able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines within a busy, high-volume environment.

Experience of working with sensitive or confidential information is essential, along with an interest in or understanding of information governance, data protection or statutory compliance. We welcome applicants who are keen to learn and develop their knowledge of information governance legislation and its practical application.
