CLASP Central Leith Afterschool Provision (www.clasp.scot) is an out-of-school childcare service based within Leith Primary School. We are a charitable, non-profit organisation that has provided affordable, high-quality after-school and holiday club care for primary-aged children for over 30 years.
Our approach is child-led, with children’s choices, interests and wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. We provide stimulating play opportunities that are shaped by children’s ideas, needs and preferences.
Our service is managed by a voluntary Management Committee, with the day-to-day running supported by our management team, including the Service Manager, Deputy Managers, Play Workers and Playworker Assistants.
We are currently recruiting a Part-Time Play Worker (16.5 hours per week) to join our friendly and supportive team.
Working hours:
- Monday: 2pm – 6pm
- Tuesday: 2pm – 6pm
- Wednesday: 2pm – 6pm
- Thursday: 1:30pm – 6pm
Pay:
- Assistant Playworker (unqualified): £12.21 per hour
- Playworker (qualified): £12.72 per hour
Term-time and holiday club contracts available.
During school holidays (excluding Christmas), we provide holiday clubs where hours and shift patterns vary. This includes trips, activities and opportunities for children to experience a wide range of play opportunities in line with play work principles.
The Role
As a Play Worker, you will support children’s play, learning and wellbeing by:
- Supervising and engaging with children in a safe, caring and inclusive environment
- Supporting children’s health, wellbeing and development in line with GIRFEC principles and the SHANARRI wellbeing indicators
- Creating, preparing and facilitating play opportunities based on children’s interests
- Supporting children to make choices and express themselves through play
- Working collaboratively as part of the staff team
- Using creativity and initiative to develop activities and play spaces
- Maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment, including equipment, resources and storage areas
- Following health and safety procedures and completing relevant training
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children (experience in a childcare/play work setting is desirable)
- Has a passion for supporting positive outcomes for children
- Can build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues
- Works well as part of a team and can also use their own initiative
- Has good organisational and time management skills
- Is committed to child-centred practice and play work values
- Has good spoken and written English skills
A relevant qualification in Play work/Childcare (for example SVQ Level 3 or equivalent) is desirable. Applicants who do not currently hold the qualification must be willing to work towards an appropriate qualification, with support provided by CLASP through our training provider.
Registration and Safer Recruitment Requirements
As this role involves regulated work with children, CLASP follows safer recruitment procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children within our service.
The successful applicant will be required to:
- Complete a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme membership check through Disclosure Scotland
- Provide satisfactory references as part of our recruitment process
- Meet relevant Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration requirements for the role
Employment will be conditional upon successful completion of all required pre-employment checks. The successful candidate must not commence work with children until satisfactory PVG Scheme membership has been confirmed.
