Full job description

Job Purpose

To manufacture, assemble, and prepare high-quality garage doors and associated components in a safe, efficient, and productive manner, ensuring all products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Assemble garage doors, panels, frames, tracks, and hardware according to production drawings and work instructions.
Operate manufacturing machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently.
Measure, cut, drill, and prepare materials to required specifications.
Conduct quality inspections throughout the production process and report any defects or non-conformances.
Pack finished products securely for storage or dispatch.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in accordance with health and safety procedures.
Follow standard operating procedures and work instructions at all times.
Assist with stock handling, material movement, and inventory control as required.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors to meet daily production targets.
Report equipment faults, maintenance issues, or safety concerns promptly.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency.

Skills and ExperienceEssential

Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely.
Good attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to follow written instructions and technical drawings.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
Physically fit and capable of manual handling and standing for extended periods.

Desirable

Experience in garage door, window, door, or metal fabrication manufacturing.
Forklift licence (where applicable).
Experience operating production machinery.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.

Working Conditions

Factory-based role.
Manual handling of materials and finished products.
Standing, lifting, bending, and repetitive tasks throughout the working day.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety footwear, gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection where required.

Health & Safety

The Production Operative is responsible for:

Following all company health and safety policies and procedures.
Wearing the required PPE.
Reporting accidents, near misses, and hazards immediately.
Operating machinery only when trained and authorised.
Maintaining a safe working environment for themselves and others.

Performance Measures

Performance will typically be assessed against:

Production output and efficiency.
Product quality and defect rates.
Attendance and punctuality.
Compliance with health and safety procedures.
Teamwork and cooperation.
Housekeeping standards.
Flexibility and willingness to support production requirements.

Pay: £12.71-£13.20 per hour
