The Cox Group is a leading provider of waste management, recycling, skip hire, and commercial collection services across the South East. As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Operations Manager to lead our commercial and industrial waste collection operations.
This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring our collection services are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of customer service.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager you will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of our collections operation, leading Driver Supervisors and collection teams while ensuring routes, resources, and customer commitments are managed effectively.
You will be responsible for route planning, workforce management, operational performance, customer service delivery, compliance, and continuous improvement across the collections division.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the commercial and industrial collections operation.
- Manage Driver Supervisors and support collection teams.
- Plan and oversee daily collection routes and resource allocation.
- Manage driver holidays, absence cover, and workforce planning.
- Ensure all customer collections are completed to agreed service standards.
- Monitor operational KPIs and drive performance improvements.
- Investigate and resolve service issues, customer complaints, and missed collections.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Operator Licence, and environmental requirements.
- Work closely with Customer Services and the Business Development to deliver excellent customer service.
- Support business growth through efficient operational planning and contract mobilisation.
About You
You will be an experienced operations professional with a strong background in waste management, logistics, transport, or collections operations.
You will have:
- Proven experience managing operational teams.
- Strong route planning and resource allocation experience.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commercial awareness and customer focus.
Desirable Qualifications
- Transport Manager CPC.
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
- Experience within trade waste, recycling, or waste management operations.
